Shall We Gather At The River (TTBB)

Stream off of the Baden Powel Trail.

Stream off of the Baden Powell Trail.

An a cappella arrangement of the traditional hymn, Shall We Gather At The River by Robert Lowry (1826–1899).  I arranged this for the Eight Deadly Sins, based in Highlands United Church in North Vancouver, Canada.  I used some of Lowry’s lyrics, as well as borrowing from the imagery of the Swedish version of the song, O, hur saligt att få vandra.

Lyrics:

1. Shall we gather at the river,

Where bright angel feet have trod,

With its crystal tide forever

Flowing by the throne of God?

.

Yes, we’ll gather at the river,

The beautiful river,

Gather with the saints at the river

That flows by the throne of God.

.

2. Shall we gather at the river?

No darkness where we will be,

Grace our spirits will deliver,

In its waters our remedy.

.

3. Here we part from one another,

I’m leaving strife and sorrow,

Soon I’ll reach that shining harbour,

Walking tall into tomorrow.
